What is Web Design?

Web design is a very user-centered multidisciplinary design pursuit that includes influences from visual arts, technology, content, and business. It pertains to the the planning and production of web sites, in conjunction with, but not curbed only by, technical development, information structure, visual design, and networked delivery. It is generally used to describe any of the various tasks involved in creating a web page, precisely to jobs focused on building the front-end of a web page. It is a process of fabricating, planning, and constructing a collection of electronic files that figure the layout, images, structure, text styles, colors, graphics and use of reciprocal countenances that deliver pages to your site visitants. It girdles various skills and methods in the production and maintenance of websites. Web graphic design, interface design, authoring, along with standardized code and proprietary software, user experience design and search engine optimization are certain areas of web design. Usually it’s a team work covering different aspects of the design process. Web design is generally used to explain the design method relating to the front-end design of a web site including writing markup. It partially imbricates web engineering.

It comprises countless pages, displaying data using various technologies and techniques and linked together with hyperlinks. Basically, there are two facets of any web page found on the Internet. First one presents visual interaction, i.e the user interacts with, usually visual while the second one is a back-end that includes information for non-human browsers. The key markup language used to tell a browser how to present data is known as the HyperText Markup Language (HTML). XHTML or extensible HyperText Markup Language is a stricter version of HTML is also used widely. Using HTML or XHTML, a web designer is able to tell a browser how a web page should appear. In the last few years, there has been a push towards separating the underlying structure of a web-page (using HTML) from the visual presentation of the site, using CSS (Cascading Style Sheets). This path has a number of major benefits in both long term and short term along with gathering reputation with time and tide. From a technological outlook, the feat of web design is quite difficult. On the contrary to conventional print media, HTML has several variable aspects. In adjection to XHTML and CSS, designers also use a number of database driven languages to allow more buoyancy and attractivity on their websites. Such languages become a virtual necessity on any site presenting huge amounts of data besides being useful with smaller sites.

The possibilities for web design are practically endless, although at some point, they were quite constrained by the boundaries of the browser itself. With the advent and pliability of embedded technologies, these boundaries have been all removed, allowing for a versatility and dynamism that challenges the imagination of anyone interested in designing for the Internet.
